Sansui SD-5050 Quad Reel-to-Reel Tape Deck – Tested

The SD-5050 is a Sansui reel-to-reel that records and plays in 2-channel stereo and also plays discrete 4-channel tapes, a great companion for a vintage quad system. This one is in outstanding cosmetic condition. It’s been tested for 2-channel recording and playback and for 4-channel playback, with its controls cleaned with DeoxIT. One thing to know: the counter belt needs replacing.

Quadraphonic Capability

The SD-5050 is particularly interesting for collectors building a period-correct quadraphonic system. It can reproduce compatible discrete 4-channel reel-to-reel recordings, providing four independent playback channels when connected to an appropriate 4-channel amplifier, receiver, or quadraphonic system.

Please note that this model's recording capability is 2-channel stereo; the 4-channel capability is for playback.

Cosmetic Condition

Outstanding overall cosmetic condition. The faceplate, controls, knobs, meters, and cabinet present exceptionally well for a vintage reel-to-reel deck, with only minor signs of age and previous use.
